Anyways, there is a chestnut tree in my yard, and heard a crunching noise, so I looked up to see what it was. It was a cute little squirrrel crunching on the few nuts that were left. I smiled to myself and said 'Ahhh, how cute"
I started to head in doors and to my surprise, I got pelted with a nut!!! I looked back up and I swear it looked like it was laughing at me. That little snot!!!
Hehehe....gotta love nature.

so we can add another US citizen to the list of people smitten by the thought of swaggering round brandishing a gun thinking they are at the OK Corral.selenau837 said:I was so afraid of guns until 3 months ago when she took me to the shooting range. I fell in love with it from that moment on.
No more fear.

Tell me Selina,
if you get a gun and there's a teenage girl, maybe an opportunist, break in your house unarmed - would you look into her eyes and blast her brains out? ( I doubt we'll get an answer, whenever probing questions are asked of the US posters here, they are often ignored)
Isn't the US motto "Happiness is a warm gun?" (written by John Lennon, born UK, killed by a gun in the USA by a crazy gunslinger)
No you didn't.selenau837 said:I never once said 'Shoot first, check later' did I?
Um, Col, go look back at your post #68, you contradict yourself. Since when is Breaking and Entering "not doing anything wrong"?ColinEssex said:However, in my scenario, you don't know what the teenage girl may do, they've done nothing yet and is just stood there as are you 10ft away with a gun.

However, in my scenario, you don't know what the teenage girl may do, they've done nothing yet and is just stood there as are you 10ft away with a gun. When do you shoot? . . . . . . now? or wait and kill them later.
Why do you feel you need a gun anyway? other US posters here have said that its a rare (ish) thing to own a handgun. What is the attraction with a gun?
In the UK I think its a safe bet that most people have never seen a real live gun let alone own one. I know I've never seen one, I wouldn't know one from the other only that they all kill.
Col
ps - apologies for the spelling mistake in your name![]()
My apologies for not making myself clear - Selena was referring to possible harm coming to children etc. my [correct] quote of "they've done nothing yet" refers to the harming of children or adults.FoFa said:Um, Col, go look back at your post #68, you contradict yourself. In the area I recently moved from it was almost necessary to have one. Meth labs everywhere, drugs etc. That in turn causes people to break in and steal stuff for drug money.
selenau837 said:Also, look at my profile pic, do I really look like someone who would blow someone away for breaking in my house.Come on people.
I am actually a sweet southern bell, who would probably invite them for tea before I would pull a trigger.![]()

so why have a gun then? the area you moved to (not from) demands you have one??selenau837 said:I was so afraid of guns until 3 months ago when she took me to the shooting range. I fell in love with it from that moment on.
No more fear.
So there is a complete law and order breakdown there - and its up to householders to defend themselves in an anarchic society? like vigilante groups? hang 'em from the nearest tree like in the wild west? Other US posters have said it is not necessary to have a gun at all.
Ouch! Col you are starting to fight dirtySo there is a complete law and order breakdown there - and its up to householders to defend themselves in an anarchic society? like vigilante groups? hang 'em from the nearest tree like in the wild west? Other US posters have said it is not necessary to have a gun at all.
I merely read your comments to mean - If an area of a city in the USA necessitates the purchase of a gun because of the fear of drug crazed zombies. One can only assume that the area is a no-go area for police and therefore its up to the residents to render their own law and order - by having a gun etcselenau837 said:Gosh, you do put words in peoples post!! Vigilante, anarchic society. I am far from what you percieve me to be.
who said you are? I have scanned the posts and I can't find a reference to beer swillingselenau837 said:I am not some gun toten, red neck, beer guzzling woman. I am a educated (even if I can't spell), hard working, single mother who is trying to protect her family the best she can.
no reason why you should, who's ridiculing? I was merely trying to look for logic and reasoning behing your sudden love of guns which does seem to fly in the face of the US posters who are trying to play down the gun owning thing in the USA. Plus trying to assertain exactly when you would pull the trigger - i.e. is there a rule book or somethingselenau837 said:I will not accept riducule from those who have not walked in my shoes.![]()
Petty Thief, so you confront them, they decide that police would be a bad idea and they all of sudden turn from a petty thief into a murderer? See what always throws me on these kind of scenerios, is if the person did not break and enter, than the whole situation would not have happened. Once they cross the threshold, they are a target. One reason I have two big dogs, to discourge that crossing of the threshold.ColinEssex said:You see, with Selena's new love of guns, adrenaline must play a part and Selena could well shoot and kill an intruder who would no more harm a child than fly to the moon. I said "an opprtunist" - maybe a window left open "inviting" a petty thief in, now Selena has killed them in an adrenalin rush and the 16yr old girl who ran away from home because of cruelty, who was only looking for food is now dead.
