Is Santa the first superhero?

He flies - or at least has a suitable vehicle
He's faster than a speeding bullet
Kids believe he exists

but - I've seen plenty of kids pretending to be superman, spiderman et al, but never seen one pretending to be santa - (unless they're over 30)
 
Of course kids don't pretend to be Santa, why would you pretend to be somebody you believe in?

Lots of kids pretend to be their sporting heroes so I do t think that's the reason. Perhaps it because Santa never zones any baddies or resorts to violence.

No. Santa doesn't wear his undies on the outside like a real superhero.

On a more serious note, I can think of other characters from legend that would qualify and pre-date Santa:

Herakles/Hercules (or pretty much any other half-divine Greek hero)
Samson
Gilgamesh
Beowulf (think: Norse Batman)

And thanks for reminding me - time to listen to 'The Night Santa Went Crazy' before the season is COMPLETELY over!
