Ken Higg hits 10,000 posts

I think boblarson was just sitting there waiting for Ken's 10,000th post so he could start this thread in the manner which he posted.
I think Bob intended the post to be sincere towards Ken but made a bit of a faux pas by voicing his views about Watercooler v Technical in the same post, simple as that. As ever these sort of things get out of proportion. It happens, we are human.

Does not say much for MVP and Administrator etc.
I don't think Bob's credentials as MVP and Administrator can possibly be in dispute. He does an admirable job on both counts from what I have seen. Talk about kicking a good man while he's down. His comments were made in the watercooler and he has the right to his opinion just as you have.

Well done Ken by the way. Always enjoy reading your contributions in all forums.

Chris

Well said Stopher. Although I completely agree with Bob's view that watercooler posts should not be counted as any great feat (being a bit of a gab myself), this thread may not have been quite the place to bring it up, but it has been brought up in similar threads in the past. It's a shame it all blew out of proportion, as you say though.

I can't fully agree with your statement of "human nature" though. I was sitting having a good chuckle at the "Geek Gods" duelling it out in the human realm :D

I notice that Lord High and Mighty has not bothered to post here for a while. Maybe we'll get some peace now.

Or maybe it's time to let it go?;) Go on, be a good boy, let the subject go now :D

But I thought Ken getting 10 grand in posts was supposed to be a big thing.

Col

It is! You can play with the Ken thread, just leave the Bob part out of it, let's get the thread back to happy thoughts and adulation for Ken :D

Wow...

I do think you've gotten a little more heat on this than you may deserve but...

To threaten a another user because of a personal squabble is not very becoming of a fair mod/admin is it? Shouldn't the task of banning a user only be exersized only where the health of the entire forum is at risk and not as a personal vandetta?

I disagreed several years ago when someone spoke of banning Mike when he posted some radical opinions and now I think he one of the most colorfull posters around...

Lighten up Bob. I already said I was sorry.

I stand to be corrected but I think this thread was done in the General forum and later moved to the Watercooler

Sadly another thread loses its sense of proportion. From what I can see, pretty well all the posters have a point.

Bob your point about watercooler versus techie posts is perectly valid, if unfortunately voiced at the wrong place/time.

Ken had every right to kick back at it a little and If Rich and Colin want to be silly or deliberately provocative, they pretty soon feel the approbation of those who disagree if we feel they or anyone else overstep the mark.

Colin also has the right in my opinion to disagree with what looks on the face of it to be a desire on your part to censor his posts. I’ve no wish to fall out with anyone here, especially someone who so generously helps others but we, like Americans, cherish freedom of speech over here and this forum generally manages to police itself pretty well without administrator intervention, however well intentioned.

This is a live and lively forum where we generally manage (with the odd notable exception) to keep a civil dialogue going and if it gets a bit robust now and then, well that’s life.

Hey guys, I understand things have got a bit out of hand on this thread. I would be very grateful if we could calm the situation down somewhat. All Administrators and Mods are needed for this community and it would be a shame if a dispute led to people falling out and possibly leaving.

Congrats to anyone who has achieved 10,000 posts or more. It is a significant milestone.

Don't push too hard Colin. I normally just try to ignore you and Rich, but everyone has their breaking point and if I really was what you seem to claim I am, you would be gone in a heartbeat. What happened? You and Rich used to be actually helpful on the site. Now all you do is argue or set up arguments in the Watercooler and don't provide any actual service to the posters on this site. Now you just seem to throw hostility out everywhere for the fun of it.

If I was as anti-American as you deem me, I wouldn't have ever answered any questions on the site and why are there 5pages of examples posted by me since the last forum hack with appr. 4,000 downloads, you continually personally insult both my ability and dedication to this site, I've been here answering questions longer than you:rolleyes:

Just who do you think you are? That's twice in recent months you've threatened to ban me. You're the one who slagged off watercooler posts as non-countable.

If you can't stand the heat then get out of the kitchen.

Col

Ken and Bob both are extremely valuable assets to this forum, and FWIW I greatly appreciate their generous time commitment, and willingness to share their expertise on these forums.

An invitation has been extended to two people to join as moderators. One has accepted (non-US) and the other (from UK) has not responded yet. SJ is still in the UK but changes in his life have moved him into being further away from this site.

This is Access WORLD Forums, not UK forums. Just because its URL includes .uk doesn't mean it has to be run by those in the UK. We have many, many people from countries all over the world, so if you think this should be a "UK" forum, then I think you may want to go off and start your own.

How long have you owned the site? The question was addressed to Jon

It's a crying shame that it has come to this. I genuinely thought this was all just playful banter and can't understand why grown people can't exchange opinions without feeling insulted. This is a sad start to the day. Can someone please pass on my best wishes to Colin. Bob, I'm sure you must equally feel sad that it has come to this, my thoughts are with you too

Originally, I created this site so I could provide Access programming and training services to a UK audience. But the forum just grew and grew. Now, the focus is global. The only problem is that it is still stuck on a uk domain. If I changed it to a .com domain it is very risky, since I could lose lots of vital search engine rankings.

I hope you guys can eventually put your differences aside. The atmosphere on these forums has always been cordial and long may we keep it that way.

That would be because you did such a good job :) So good in fact that some of us were discussing on the Site Suggestion Thread that you or Bob may try to get on the vbulletin advisory board. I tried emailing them our suggestions for the forum but they said all suggestions must come from the owner.

We feel that you would be a great asset to the board, they'd be mad not to listen to you.

Very kind words, thank you. But if I deserve any credit it is for identifying the need and fulfilling it. It is the Administrators and Moderators who run this place day to day and without them it would be nothing.

As a side note, I have noticed a large increase in the number of people visiting this board lately. Anyone else noticed that?
