The first post on the .Why oh why oh why - the date thread was hardly serious

Why is it in American format?

Why Oh Why Oh Why - its all around the wrong way....

LOL switch it round proper I say
...

Hmm the smilies don't copy

So why did ChrsO get on his high horse and lock it just because it had drifted off topic. He never even asked us to stop.
I had not considered that it had ever been a "technical" thread.

If all the threads which drifted off topic were locked there would be a lot of 3 post threads...

I think it has more to do with the location of the thread that went off topic. Jon keeps up with those posts. Since it started going far off topic, and since Jon had already posted the reasoning behind the format he chose, I don't see a problem with that thread closing. I think the bigger question is why do you? It seemed the thread had served it's purpose in the area it was posted.

It was the manner of the closing, I felt that ChrisO was rude in his post and could just have asked Rain and me to stop posting. We have been here a long time and are not a couple of young bloggers.
It is possible to just respond to posts forgetting where the thread started, a reminder would have elicited an apology to Jon and cessation of posting.
I feel that Bob would have just moved all of the offending posts.

And that can still be done. I can move them here if that will work.

Thanks, but I think that we had finished, my comment was to do with the manner of closing, not that I wished to continue.
