I see that the site problems have resulted in the loss of many posts.

It looks like at least 24 hours of posts are gone, probably more judging by the last posting date of some posts.

Yep, I posted this thread before Jon informed us of the backup situation, I noticed quickly because threads I had been working on disappeared except one which was back to square one.

The choice was to have the host repair the crashed tables. But then what happens if I find the database has problems a month later? I might have to revert to an early backup and lose a months worth of posts. I took the safest option.

I wasn't complaining just explaining, I agree that you have to be sure that everything is ok, not try to be clever and hope.
