Well, it's not a midlife crisis, but here's how things worked out for
me. Married 32 years, took a look at my wife one day and said, "Honey,
32 years ago, we had a cheap apartment, a cheap car, slept on a sofa bed
and watched a 10 inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep every night
with a hot 20 year old. Now, we have a nice house, nice car, big bed and
plasma screen TV, but I'm sleeping with a 52 year old woman. It seems to
me that you are not holding up your side of things."

My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me to go out and find a hot
20 year old blond to sleep with, and she would make sure that I would
once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving a cheap car, sleeping
on a sofa bed, and not have anything nicer than a 10 inch black and
white TV.

For a number of years I have done the cooking for dinner. My wife who had breast cancer (7 years clean) is now very sensitive to smells (side effect of the chemo treatment). We take turns doing the dishes. And for most of the past year we have been a foster parent to our granddaughter. I help as much as I can. I still have to do the mowing, changing the oil in the car, etc. My wife cleans as much as she can (usually when the grand daughter sleeps). Occasionally our daughter (mother of the grand daughter) will help clean around the house if she is staying a few days (not allowed to be there full time, long story). And since I am 62 and the wife is 59, it can be quite a struggle at times.

I remember thinking that when I had a really bad bout with gout. Colchicine works but HOO BOY does it make you feel rotten. Nowhere near as bad as cancer and chemo, but then there are a lot of treatments that have the attribute "the cure is worse than the disease."

In fact, comedian Jeff Foxworthy does a routine on medications and their side effects. He names one where he does an A to Z list of 26 symptoms as side-effects to some drug that cures warts or something benign like that.

I use Indomethacin ?
Never had any side effects and works wonders on the gout.?

These days I take nothing but simply watch my diet. Which I've had to do since my liver issues a few years ago anyway. It's a good thing that chicken is cheap. And I've eaten so much chicken that I'm about to turn into one. But if I do, I'll be just another dumb cluck so I'll blend in pretty well. Not to mention that we can use the eggs.

Yeah, I know... an old joke. But then, I ain't young.

I did for a while. But only when my gout flared up. From what I read, it can damage an organ over time (liver, kidneys?, I can't remember). For whatever reason my doctor put me on the Allopurinol (my purine level was high).

It is a NSAID as is Diclofenac Sodium which I use for my arthritis when I have to.

However I use them infrequently enough not to worry about them.
I've never been much of a pill popper and it is all I can do to remember to take any other medication I am prescribed at other times.
