but the search was full of areas I have ignored, like Water-cooler.
Any chance searches can be tailored to only accepted forums?

If you click Search top right of the page, you have a dropdown that says Everywhere. But you can change the options. Or, you can click Advanced Search to further taylor your searches.

So, in your case, you could click Advanced Search, and then select the forum section as shown below:
