I missed it due to my lack of having cable. I will prob watch the videos when I get home...

So far from what I have heard it did a positive impression.

Well it is...but need to get some "Bunny Ears"...for some reason the only channel get is MTV2 which where I live is channel 78...

Dont ask. Have no idea why I only get MTV2...supposed it could be worse.

You're probably getting it because I have it blocked on my tv set(s) :p :p

well, he's shown he's still in the pocket of big industries by not mentioning a cut in greenhouse gas emissions

...

reduce petrol consumption by 20%? - no way, the USA loves the car too much, thats like saying (to an American) don't go to church.

I'm no Bush fan, but wouldn't reducing gas consumption by 20% cut greenhouse gas emissions?

I find the whole "State Of The Union" ritual a sort of weird self-congratulatory, maybe even masturbatory, hollywood award ceremony meets worship service. Look at us looking at us: clap, clap, clap. Now look at me: clap, clap, clap. Oh, look at you: clap, clap, clap. Like some other religious rituals I've observed it seems phoney.

Maybe it's like manna if you're a member of the cult.

Agreed. I think it's another one of those wierd things we picked up from the UK...:p

OK, other than these always seem to be the same old stuff.
What I got was the public needs to cut gas consumption by 20% Nice, what about business? Why nothing on say nuclear plants to get away from burning coal to generate electricity? Why is it always the PUBLIC?
HealthCare, tax cuts are nice, but I didn't really hear any answers, of course I have never heard any real answers from either party.
Iraq, on one hand there is a "Let me think about that" truth to his, secure Baghdad so the government can get on with business theory, but then on the other hand is listening to politicians and the Military. I am not sure either has good ideas in the current Iraq situation. Seems like about the only thing that happened is the power shift from Sunnis to Shites.
Pretty much everything seemed like fluff, he just is not as good at it as Clinton was.

Yeah - He didn't fumble through it as bad as I expect he'll do when ever he speaks. And he does lack the charisma of Clinton. And as a commentator pointed out, I think his best effort at an apology for the war issue was when he said something like it wasn't the war we picked but it is the fight we're now in'... Not much but I guess we'll have to take it...

FoFa I'm trying to guess whether you mistyped shiites deliberately.:D

Ken your getting to be like Rich but from the other side of the pond. :(

True, but the State of the Union address isn't really the time for answers, it's the time for saying "Hey, this is what I've done and this is what I still want to do, but we'll figure out how later."

I live in the real world, it's Bush and Americans who live in the land of make believe

Well Ken you learn something new everyday, perhaps I should be apologising for jumping to conclusions, mind you I don't think the present Queens Speech is anything like the State of the Union Address.

Brian

Edit Started this post about 30 mins ago but got interrupted by a phone call, hadn't seen Rich's posts.

Thanks ok - I did make some snips about the tent thing in London and the gold buggy thing in some other threads that may have been out of line...:o

Hanging out around here with Rich and Cols comments dotting the landscape will teach a fella how to be tollerant of others short comings. :) :)

fyi - never seen the queens address -
Q. Why would an atheist do the 'God bless her' thing?
