But I find it hard to believe that the only ones who do it happen to be the few dozen that I've met, and that all others kill with a single shot, stick strictly to the seasons and areas permitted by law, only kill animals which need to be culled, and eat everything they kill.

yes u seem to have met a few bad apples.... i know i wouldn't hunt with them

For those of us who can shoot , its hard to understand why people cannot kill with 1 shot , so my view would be slightly bais - as i would be doing 1 shot -1 kill (that if I was to hunt) - being ex military we were taught 1 shoot -1 kill .
as to culling the herd - that has to be done =, espeacially with deer otherwise they will over breed and stave during a harse winter (here I am talking about UK - might be differnet stateside)..g

Yes, there are some bad ones out there. Like Ray said, they are killers and not hunters. How did you get hooked up with so many?

I really only know a few people who are into hunting, but the people I know adhere to the laws concerning seasons, and they use the meat that they get. The ones that don't adhere to the law and just want to kill something are in every way as bad as those who enjoy torturing and then killing animals in order to make bets. (In my opinion, anyway. )

Actually, I had the misfortune of spending a year working for a car parts firm in what could charitably be described as a blue collar area (although words like 'redneck' and 'hick' also spring to mind). Was a relief to be out of there and back to 'civilisation'.

Nope its the same... and the reason you practice shooting is so that when u get the one shot opportunity thats all you need

We've all seen the pictures of the Rednecks with their deer strapped over their car parading the carcass round like a trophy. What is it? some macho ego boost?

Any Yanks here do that? - obviously the answer will be no - most here won't even admit they have a gun.

In an attempt to fully immerse myself in my adopted culture. Now, I just need to brush up on the lyrics to AC/DC songs, buy a pick-up truck, grow a mullet, and forget how to drive safely and I'll be there.
