To start with, we went to kill Muslims (the Jews had been getting their own trouble from Caliph Hakim, as had the Christians). We did end up killing a lot of Jews, but it wasn't the primary aim.

Thanks for the link, I have to check out when I have more time.

So the first intensions was to go on the crusades to kill Muslims? Did the crusaders ever attack Jerusalem, on one of their crusades? Then we have the reformation later on down the line. Right?

Did you not watch that documentary that Orlando Bloom starred in?

Almost Mel Gibson-like levels of historical accuracy.

IIRC, the answer to both ?s is "yes". At the time the Crusaders attack Jerusalem, however, it was under Muslim control. That was initially the entire (public) impetus behind the Crusades: to recapture the Holy Land from the Muslims.

If you're thinking of a time when Europeans/Christians persecuted the Jews en masse (which they pretty much did all the time anyway), you might be thinking of the Spanish Inquisition.

Europe is a large Continent, not all of it was involved

Thank Kraj. To recapture the Holy Land for who? Themselves or the Jews? When I said I've read a lot on church history I really have only gone as far back as the reformation.

No, no, our only objective is to get Americans to end their insularity:cool:

I was being facetious, sorry. The film was 'Kingdom of Heaven' and was about the second, I think, crusade (I know it wasn't about the last one, anyway). Not very good overall.

Orlando is a pretty actor who was in the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean trilogies, among others.

Have you seen the movie? If so, is it worth seeing? Now that I see Mr. Blooms picture, I've seen him before. I just took the kids to see the new Pirates movie and he was in it.

...which is why it's called the Spanish Inquisition.

He was taking a poke at the movie "Kindom of Heaven" (I think it was called), which was basically a pathetic attempt to cash in on the success of "Gladiator" by making another crummy period piece. As if "Troy" and "Alexander" weren't enough to clue producers in to the fact that people were interested in the story of Gladiator, not the setting.

And Orlando Bloom is the gorgous hunk of a man who played Legolas in LotR as well as the man character of Will Turner in Pirates of the Carribean.

EDIT: Snarth'd!

I imagine it was for themselves. After all, Jerusalem is just as important - if not moreso - to Christians as it is to Jews.
