Everytime I've faced a near death experience on the road it's been due to a female driver. So, even though I'm biased, and at the risk of starting World War 3, I thought I'd pose the question.

Which sex are better drivers?

No sitting on the fence with this one!
:eek:

It makes no difference there are bad drivers of both sexes and all races. You are simply suffering from confirmation bias. You expect outcome A, so you look for outcome A whilst ignoring or minimising your observation of outcome B.

In fact this article says;

...

According to Roger Atkins, Director of the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) women are critical to the resources sector, not just because there is a skills shortage plaguing the nation, but also because they are dedicated, hard working individuals and are seen by many minesites as the preferred truck drivers due to the level of care they possess and provide.
¿One mine located in regional Queensland just wants to hire female truck drivers because they feel women treat the machinery better than men,¿ Atkins told Australian Mining.

...

and this one says;

Newer Caterpillar vehicles are controlled by joysticks that respond best to a woman's "sensitive'' touch, said Daniel Sanchez, a sales manager at Finning's Argentina unit.

...

and there's plenty more if you care to Google the subject.

Good, true and valid points John. No denying females do have some better qualities than men but I do not believe that driving is one of them, as I have observed outcome 'B' trying to kill me, haha!
:D

if you read the stats, women have less accidents, which leads people to say that women are better drivers. Wrong it just means they have less accidents.

A friend of mine is a driving instructor and he says it takes on average 11 weeks to get a man to test but 13 weeks to get a woman to test. The issues are nearly always "spacial awareness" and the "mechanics" of driving a car.

I hate drawing generalisations. My wife is an excelent driver (LGV class III) but my sisters, well i'll leave it at that:p.

In these days of equality, there is no doubt that females want equality until it comes to doing something technical, heavy or just hard work, then the "I'm the poor weak female" gene kicks in.

We have some female bus drivers here, that's fine, it doesn't involve much reversing but parallel parking to the kerb can be challenging.

Having said all that, I believe women are better drivers on the whole. They are usually calmer, don't get so angry with other drivers and generally observe the rules of the road.

There will always be good and indifferent drivers of both sexes, but I thing on the road women have the edge for courtesy etc. as for the more challenging bits like reversing, parking in spaces etc. men probably have the edge there.

:confused:I have checked all my drivers (printer, scanner, video, etc) and yet none of them appear to have a gender.

not round here .

I personally think that the difference, which is reflected in the accident stats, is that men behave like men and women like women, ie men are more willing to take a chance, this not only applies to faster driving, over taking etc but also to pressing on in adverse conditions.

I know women who will not drive in poor weather conditions or on roads they do not know and have been driven by men who admit that they can hardly see because of the fog/rain, difficult to bail out on the motorway at 80

I live very close to a High School. I am surrounded on three sides by roads that have school zones that post a 40kmh speed limit for a period of two hours morning and night at start and finish times for school. If you observe these zones, which I have done frequently, you'll notice that it is the females (usually mothers) that flaunt the limit and take the silly risks in an effort to find parking, dump the kids and then race back home with the new-born in the car. Now granted, the women are usually left with such chores because hubby's at work, but shouldn't a mother of children be more alert to the safety of other children? And therefore conform to the laws as the men are doing.

O come on, you really don't understand women do you?

A mother will care only about her own little darlings and will therefore fight to park as close to the school entrance as possible, the rest of the world can go to hell in a handcart.

So true! The thing that amazes me is the zones are there to protect all children including their own, yet this is like a red flag to a bull to some!

You guys haven't seen my mother drive. I remember when I had my learner's permit. She tried to take me on the roads and freaked out every step of the way for no reason. Never again after that.

My grandmother did teach me calmly though, so maybe these two can cancel each other out. :D

Don't know what you're talking about :p

The automobile insurance industry has a lot of statistical data that justifies charging a higher rate on male drivers then female drivers.

Trick question. What is the definition of "better driver"?

If one interprets that as a safer driver, women would be considered better drivers.

If one interprets that in terms of capability, men would be considered better drivers.
