I think we should have CAPTCHAs for all new members (less than 10 posts). There has been an awful lot of spam today!

I thought they turned that feature of vBulletin on over a year ago.

I wouldn't know. I do know that whatever they are doing to keep spammers out isn't doing very well.

It is a manual process by a Moderator once the spammer gets in. There are some decent tools to delete the spam and ban the user but a Mod still needs to do it. Maybe there are not that many Mods in attendance recently for some reason. When you report the spam, an email is sent to all of the Mods as a wake up call.

Well I now know what that funny writing is you have to type in CAPTCHA

As I said elsewhere, I thought Bob dealt with these posts. He always seems to be banging on about how he monitors the IP address etc. etc.

Is he on holiday?

Does that work if the spammer doesn't have a static IP Address?

Oh, wait, don't answer that, it might give future spammers ideas...

He did. Unfortunately he has left this forum for the time being.

I have been monitoring spammers closely lately. Even this morning my personal email account was full of reported posts from about 8 members regarding ADVENTURE. I went in and deleted them all and immediately banned him. This is the postition I am taking will all spammers lately, even if thy only post 1 thread.

I have also been keeping on top of the sample database moderations for you as well.

David

We should be able to help by tagging posts Possible Spam and these get suspended until it is moderated and released only if it is a false negative.

Rich and Colin finally got their wish; they got rid of him.

From what I remember he lost his job and thus was about to be thrown out of the home he'd had for many years along with his possessions. Now that must be an awful thing to happen having to start all over again etc., but at least he can take some comfort from that old adage "what goes 'round comes 'round"

I thought he was retired.

I think Rich has described Bob's current situation correctly. He lost his job and although he got another one he was still having problems servicing the debts that had accrued.

I am sure people will appreciate the many positives he brought to this forum now he is not here.

That's just awful! I'm truly sorry to hear that.
