Have any of you made any New Years resolutions?

Here are mine specially chosen to be easy to keep.

1. Give up smoking ( I don't smoke so that's easy)
2. Be even more grumpy - no probs there!
3. Keep visiting these forums (fora?) - Got to have some pleasure in life.

Lets hear everyone else's?

Or perhaps we could post resolutions for other regular visitors??

for example
Rich/Col To befriend an american this year:D

Mine are along the same lines.. aim low so you cant be dissapointed.

main one is to stop being so grumpy.... start enjoying things more than being cynical about everything..

I'd like to capitalize letters when they deserve it too. Kind of went out the window with the advent of AIM... Oh TeChNoLoGy:p

As we all start a new year, it is time again to make those ever so
important New Year's Resolutions. I have faithfully made such
resolutions in the past, and while I haven't been able to keep all of
them, I have tried my best to continue making progress on them year
after year. Following is my revised list of "New Year's Resolutions -
2008 Edition":

Resolution #1
2005: I will try to be a better husband to Marge.
2006: I will not leave Marge.
2007: I will try for a reconciliation with Marge.
2008: I will try to be a better husband to Wanda.

Resolution #2
2005: I will go to church every Sunday.
2006: I will go to church as often as possible.
2007: I will set aside time each day for prayer and meditation.
2008: I will try to catch the late night sermonette on TV.

Resolution #3
2005: I will not let my boss push me around.
2006: I will not let my sadistic boss drive me to the point of
suicide.
2007: I will stick up for my rights when my boss bullies me.
2008: I will tell Dr. Hodger and the group about my boss.

Resolution #4
2005: I will read at least 20 good books a year.
2006: I will read at least 10 books a year.
2007: I will read 5 books a year.
2008: I will finish Airport.

Resolution #5
2005: I will not get upset when Charlie and Sam make jokes about my
baldness.
2006: I will not get annoyed when Charlie and Sam kid me about my
toupee.
2007: I will not lose my temper when they tell the guys I wear a
girdle.
2008: I will not speak to Charlie and Sam.

Resolution #6
2005: I will get my weight down below 180.
2006: I will watch my calories until I get below 190.
2007: I will follow my new diet religiously until I get below 200.
2008: I will try to develop a realistic attitude about my weight.

Resolution #7
2005: I will not take a drink before 5:00 p.m.
2006: I will not touch the bottle before noon.
2007: I will not become a "problem drinker".
2008 : I will not miss any AA meetings.

And on that note, I would like to take the opportunity to wish all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Best regards

Maurice

I am utterly horrible at keeping resolutions as I am a procrastinator by nature. While in undergrad, I would put off a 10-week term 15-page paper until the day before it was due, lock my self in a room with a computer, and emerge in time for class the next day and turn the paper in. I would do so comfortably because I know my capabilities and knew I could get it done satisfactorily.

However, that same mindset automatically tries to abuse the "resolution" concept. I've tried to say "I will be beach-fit again by June!" only for me to procrastinate until April, turn completely militant in my diet and exercise, and then my GF encourage me to stop because she thinks being so serious about fitness is silly. I think the same, too, but I'm goal oriented AND a procrastinator.

I've found a medium, I think. Make no resolutions and just try to do thing a *little* bit better than last year. Did I play too much EQ last year? Ok, I'll randomly not log on and just do something else -- no schedule, no minimum, just play it by ear.

Did I eat too unhealthily? Yes, I did. This year, if I think a raw vegetable can hold me over, I think I'll just eat a tomato instead of knocking out a steak and some mashed potatoes. And if I eat the steak despite the tomato looking so simple and plump, no biggie -- I can choose the tomato next time.

Little by little, when I feel like it. Otherwise, I'll get nothing done for a long time and when I start, I'd scare people.

I couldn't possibly be like that, I prefer being just perfect:cool:

A legend in your own mind. :D

Reminds of an old joke:

Following an embarrasing incident:
He - I feel like a perfect fool.
She - Nobody's perfect.

Becoming grumpy is to protect yourself from becoming cynical

My boss tells me procrastination is the root of all my problems.

I do not know what that big word means. I will look it up tomorrow.
