Can you explain this a little better please? why would France and Spain pay a fee?

Col

It's a bit of a leap...but perhaps their television recievers can pick up the BBC broadcasts?

The UK transmitter / receiver licence does not extend to mainland Europe. So if they pick up the BBC (or any other UK station) they do not pay UK fees. The fee is applicable to the territory of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Oh my God I never thought that it would be so difficult to make the Yanks understand such a simple concept.

THE PEOPLE OF THE UK PAY A LICENCE FEE TO OWN A TV RECEIVER.

Notice that statement does not mention anything about the tv channels received.

Ken do you pay a gun licence even if you have no bullets?

So all we need now is to get someone in NL to stream BBC, online, via hong kong, and biggity bam! Better than free south park!

Ken might, but as for the whole, prolly not. thats why we have 'collector' shows.

Understanding a rule is different from accepting its validity, let alone its effectivenessness-ness

Jeez Brian, why so hostile? We understand, just enjoy getting you Brits all riled up.

Brian - they are Yanks. The concept of guns, killing, invading somewhere, torture, killing animals etc come easily.

The intricacies of a legal requirement are somewhat baffling to them.

Ya, I definately do not pay a gun license. The government doesn't know I have half of my guns and I like it that way. Keeps us from winding up like Australia.

That might apply to you, don't remember any daft quetions being repeated, but some seemed to have difficulty actually grasping the concept, so I adopted the usual English approach when a foreigner doesn't understand - SHOUT. :D

I wonder why they can dish it out but can't take it. ?

I also wonder if Canada, being a common wealth thing, has to pay a like fee? As far as that goes, do the French? Spain?
Don't know about these countries but you certainly need a TV licence in Sweden

this seems to be wrapping up too nicely for my liking. How often must one renew the aforementioned license?

What is the best way to dodge this license and steal TV?

I understand the Brian. I have understood it all along. My questions are called follow-up questions. :)

Now if you'll be so kind as to tell me about cable/dish.:) Lets say I have no tv, cable etc of any kind. If I get cable/dish run to my house, I assume there's a cable /dish fee. ? And BBC gets a portion of that fee? So then if I buy a tv to hook up to my cable/dish box do I have to pay the traditional bbc receiver license fee or is this fee waived because I am paying bbc through my cable/dish fee?

All a rather innocent question isn’t it?

A friend of mine lived in the UK for a while. The TV was included in the flat (apt.) where he lived, or so he was told.
The TV police dropped by one day. Turned out the owner of the flat had not paid the TV licence. The owner was fined.

Thanks Rabbie, I knew there were some civil brits left around here. That's exactly what I was wondering; What other country is forced to pay a fee to view government run tv other than the UK and China? In fact china may even get their government run propaganda for free, not sure on that one... :p

So you don't have to pay the fee in Canada? Is the BBC the overseerer of TV there like in the UK? I though you were a commonwealth thing or something like that..?

They have a database of all addresses and check up on addresses without TV licences.

So what you are saying is, I can put a shack in the woods that has no address and set up an antenna and nobody would be any the wiser? This of course is assuming that I cared enough about watching TV to actually do this.

yeah, im not sure how i got myself caught up in this...haven't had a television in 5 years...

i would be thrilled to ride in the fish van, however...

Do i need a special license to drive one of those?
