Richard Dawkins and Faith/Atheism

As Richard Dawkins states in The God Delusion, saying “there’s no God” is taking a “faith” position. He writes: “Atheists do not have faith; and reason alone could not propel one to total conviction that anything definitely does not exist”.

I took that from this site

Yep, you've got it.

Therefore they are agnostic.

Agnostic

If know something for certain then that is 100%. If you don't don't know something for certain then in the context of this topic that is agnostic.

This is very simple. Do you know God does not exist.

An agnostic is someone who doesn't know whether god exists, and holds that it is a realistic possiblity that he does. An atheist is someone who does not think it is reasonable to assume that god exists under the circumstances (the circumstances being exactly zero evidence of his existence), while still allowing that there is a vanishing possibility that he does. It is amazing to me that you insist on collapsing the distinction between these two distinct positions.

An agnostic is basically....don't know....

Do you know that God does not exist. This is really simple.

Yes, I read it. I wasnt making much of a point. I just think that the Santa Hotline is funny. I think my parents had "Santa" call my little sister once.

Mike, Why are you so obsessed with how other people label themselves. Is it actually going to make any difference to you whether I for example call myself an atheist or an agnostic who thinks it is extremely unlikely there is a god.

In my view there is no more evidence for the existence of god than there is for the existence of Santa Claus, the tooth fairy or the Spaghetti Monster. Others may differ but that is my opinion.

Read Rich's post (10)

His reason for saying he knows 100% there is no God is because He is not in the phone book.
Mike, if you follow Rich's posts on this orum you will have noticed his talent for winding people up. I think the post you refer to is another fine example of his ability to do this. You seem thave taken the bait hook line and sinker. One up to Rich I think.
