When to eat your cake - heard of intermittent fasting?

It's an American thing. We get queasy thinking of the contents of hot dogs, which are basically ground up offal encased in intestine.

But then, apparently you benighted Europeans generally don't grasp the gastronomic delight that is peanut butter. We all have our quirks.

Edit: And honestly? I've tried liver. I just can't stand the taste of it.

It does smell good while cooking, but I am with you on the taste uff da.

Interesting. I actually have quite a few European friends (scattered between England, Scotland, Spain, Holland, Germany, and Gibraltar), and virtually none of them can stand the stuff.

And Scott, here, jelly has no pieces of the fruit, jam has small bits and chunks ground up and included, and preserves generally are jam but with bigger chunks. Personally, I'm fondest of Strawberry jam.

My grandmother used to love peanut-butter-and-mayonnaise sandwiches. THOSE are nasty.

It is an acquired taste, and all my friends think I'm weird...lol

By the way the Jam I use doesn't contain any fruits bits or seeds, so I guess technically it is Jelly, but just called Jam with No Bits here.. ;)

Not sure about Peanut Butter and Mayo

But I do love Tuna and Cheese on Toast.. :D

I cooked faggots the other night for tea with roasties and cabbage and a rich onion gravy, very good.
I'm not keen on peanut butter, but our French girl students love it, either crunchy or smooth.

Brian, if you have ever ventured south, have you tried salad? Wonderful with a big (for me) 6oz rump steak and chips, steak garnished with French mustard.

Today for tea we have home made cottage pie with fresh veg. For pudding we have raspberry trifle. Tomorrow is naughty, bacon, egg and chips.

Its almost time for our once-a-month chinky, maybe next week.

Col I have a sort of salad for lunch most days, lettuce, tomatos, cucumber, peppers with a bit of cold meat or cheese , but I cannot stand salad with a hot dish.
This latest scare story about processed meat, well I guess I should be dead now, garlic sausage, pepperoni, and cured ham are staples and have been as far back as I can remember, of course I do have other things. I believe in a balanced diet, balance the good food with the junk.

Brian

Is he babbling about that processed food thing now?

Just about every food *CAN* kill you. Hell, water can kill you. But if all of these stories were as true as the scare-mongers would have you believe, then the average lifespan wouldn't be twice what it was in the Middle Ages.

As you said, it's about balance. Live on nothing but Twinkies and pizza, and of COURSE you're going to get sick.

Umm....

*hides the pizza in his fridge*

Back on track my fast of 6 hours is almost up so I'll sign off and head round to my daughters for dinner, fish I believe so I've rescued a bottle of Sauvignon blanc semillion from the fridge.

Have good weekend and Halloween folks .

Oops one last post for now

The he is the WHO and it's really pissed off the Germans.

I'm having pizza tomorrow round at my other daughter's with the grandkids , gee it's a hard life. :D

Just looked up trifle (the dessert) and it does look sort of tasty.

Mind you, I still prefer Bavarian cream, Black Forest Cake, Berliners, Prinzregententorte (had to look up the name for that one), Streusal-topped apple pie, and the like.

Hey, don't look at me like that! I had an elderly German neighbor growing up who absolutely loved to bake. Her desserts and pastries were unbelievably good and left me with a life-long love of German desserts. She's also why I went and learned German rather than French or Spanish.

You too man.

Well, there is a diversity of taste no matter what country. One of the things I like from UK is fish and chips. Had it in Plymouth, UK. I use to have it in RI at least once a week. We had a joint called Ye Old English Fish and Chips restaurant. Can't get it here in FL, or just about every place else I travel. If anybody in the US knows a place in their local that has authentic English style Fish and chips , give me a shout. I'll book a meeting there. Other wise I will have to wait until I book RI again.

What is RI? In the UK is is 'religious instruction' in schools. I know FL is Florida.

Frothy, in your comment "is he babbling about that processed food thing now?"' Who is the "he"? I lost track on that comment.

Pretty much anywhere in the Midwest, man. My understanding is that Authentic Fish and Chips consists of beer-battered deep-fried cod and what we locally refer to as french fries, generally big ones. Well, that's what they sell all over Michigan and the rest of the Great Lakes area. Whitey's in Davison, MI used to have nationally-renowned fish-n-chips, but they've gone downhill over the last ten years. I'm still trying to find a top-notch replacement.

There's also Fairhaven Fish and Chips in Bellingham, Washington.

RI is Rhode Island, however those of us in the Western States believe it is an urban myth, like Big Foot, the Loch Ness, and a Tasty healthy Diet.

At one time when it was rumored to exist, they claimed all the state lines were posted on a single pole.
The official State 100 meter run was conducted in a circle, with 20 laps.

The state may or may not actually exist. But we can identify the males from there. Their motto is "size doesn't matter"

Real fact - if you were to somehow pick up Rhode Island, rotate it about 45 degrees, and drop it in Lake Superior, it would fit entirely inside the lake.

Yes, one of the lakes surrounding my home state is larger than some states. Some nations, for that matter.
