people in Sydney don't know much about Adelaide or Perth and they don't have to know.

When I was in sydney I got the impression that you could have put the full stop after the word much.

Gary,

The solution is for the US of A to buy Australia. You pommies fucked up by sending the criminals to Australia and staying in England. Should have reversed it.

If America buys Australia then each working man in Australia gets $1 million tax free.

The yanks get a bit of dirt as big as the US, less people than their toy size Texas, no snow/ice and all that shit.:D Also, the yanks get to see big cattle stations instead of those Texas hobby farms

And we Australians get gun laws tossed out and can roam all over the world annoying the hell out of people.:D

America is just like the biggest city in different countries, where the action is. Even in little ole Australia, people in Sydney don't know much about Adelaide or Perth and they don't have to know.

- yeap..

I have posted something to this effect ..
as the US and Oz are that large international news doesn't really mean a lot to most

unless you live/work in a trade zone

if your some sheep farmer in the deepest darkest beyond then the only real thing your worried about is weather- and the price of sheep and the value of the AUD$

Does the averge Joe in Oz really care what xx does in France - not really

writing a post - so didn't see yours above mine .

who wants that much sand anyway...lol

The bit about the government being screwed up is true.

And may indicate why things like the "world series" irritate non americans, it reminds people of what they percieve to be an the US's ignorant, self centred view of the world.

I have never had a problem with "world series" or "world champion" with a sport that is dominated by America and perhaps mainly played in America.

What about "Don Bradman" being the best batsman the world has seen. I did not see China, US etc in the ring.

What about world champion racing driver...Formula 1.....they can't even get the thing off the ground properly in the US and the US is the home of cars and hot cars. Any car racing that claims "world champion" and does not have America on boad is meaningless.

Let me get this right - F1 competed for in 20 ish (including US and Canada i think) countries and open to all, doesn't deserve to be called world champion, but baseball open to 2 does?

Theres a not too subtle differnace - which I can't be bothered explaining any futher to someone who can't see it by themselves.

Sydneys like London, an overpopulated, hellhole which should only be visited for a few days at time -
Why live in Oz - where the space is one of its finest assets - and then live in Sydney?

So true ...

come the election one can hope that there will be a change
(might not be for the better - but a change anyway)

I like to think that the rivalry between the UK and the USA (Montgomery and Patton) actually raised the allies to greater heights against the nazis.

The Marshall plan was pretty ruthless however. I'll give you that.

But unlike in England or America you can drive out to nowehere.

However, the major problem with Australia is the politics etc do not reflect the sparsely populated place and because the very large majority of the population are living or next to a big city.

As a side note, about 20 years ago I met a bloke and his wife from Sweden, they were holidaying in Australia. He was a hunter back home. To cut a long story short, the timing was right and we had him out shooting. He wanted do all that stalking bullshit so we dropped him off in the middle of nowhere and it was January. Gave him a couple of hours and went to collect him. He became an instant convert to shooting from the car:D

I know of no law that stops you playing baseball or other countries being part of it.

I wonder if the knight in shining armour would have come to our rescue if Hitler hadn't declared war on the US:rolleyes:

I respect the rest of your post but it is precisely statements like the one quoted that give people anti US ammunition. To the US it was merely business and they screwed the British for every penny they could get, that's not the problem , its not acknowledging that that is the issue.

Brian
I'm not talking about the money or politics; I'm talking about the actual supplies- food, metal, ammo etc. that was used in the war.

Were they not needed? Were they helpful or did they just get in the way?
Oh, if I remember right the Nazi Wolf packs sent more supplies to the bottom of the Atlantic during that time than actually made it to the UK.
I do not know if the UK still had to pay for that tho. But knowing human greed for what it is I think they did. :(

And what would you all think If Kuwait had had nuclear weapons when Saddam invaded? Thats a peace loving little country.

I spent 3 years in Sydney in the 70's - it was ok but very Americanised. Adverts on TV every 5 minutes, fast food, big cars. I got the impression the Aussies were desperately trying to be American and failing spectaculary.
