When to eat your cake - heard of intermittent fasting?

I have a run coming up in a few weeks, and had got into my head to get a bit fitter. I'll use this to inspire me. I'll post back my progress - or lack of till Xmas.

Now, as to the original topic, I am on a strict intermittent fasting regimen of 364 - 1 (I fast only on Yom Kippur - the Jewish day of atonement).

This really did make me laugh out loud , not just a LOL

Brian

Its funnier after 10 pints! Or if you recognise the scenario of telling the doctor a number less than is the really the case.

Ok I get it. I think 10 pints would shift me off this mortal coil rather than help me with my sense of humor!

I have a proposal, let’s create a new thread. We could call it something like the CAGE. All participants agree to keep their insults, pokes, jabs and aggression confined within this thread. Furthermore we agree not to derail any other threads or post outside the cage.

You want a humour bypass? I'm not sure you'll survive another one!

Brian - I really didn't think what I wrote about the Royal Family was "personal" at all. To me, they're political/historical figures. And they are certainly not present company, unless they are members of the forum - which I can safely assume they aren't. Also the remark although unflattering, was as clearly humorously intended as anything Col said.
But regardless of what I thought or intended, you were insulted and I instantly apologized, without suggesting you're too sensitive.
It's all your POV people. There is no right or wrong way to react to such remarks.

And Col's remarks do get personal, because he refers not just to the country "America", but also to "Americans" which I undoubtedly am.

From your description of it , he was too sensitive - you should have apologised and pointed that out!
I can only think he loves horses and didn't like the comparison to Princess Anne.

In seriousness - I think a good barometer of whether its acceptable or not - is would it pass on mainstream tv. Cols remarks or the royal stuff - absolutely would.

So unless you want to spend your time being constantly offended - just move on , ignore it or embrace it for what it is.

Col is alright. Just treat him as the local grumpy old man and everything is good. This is a forum guys, part of the fun is learning each others ticks.

Danielle, I am nearer 70 than 60, a mate of mine says I am old enough to become a "character" rather than a pain in the bum.

BTW I forgot to mention earlier in reply to Libre that:-

My creatinine, blood sugar, U's and E's all are within normal limits.
Blood pressure is 120/70 and heart rate is 55.
My main problem is my back and knee and early arthritis in the hips meaning I can't now walk 200 or 300 yards without a rest. But as I'm nearly 70, it's better than some. On a pension, I can't afford a gym and haven't got the energy if I could.

Oh FrothyFace, I never said I hated Mary, I said I hate the disease (MS) and I despise being a carer for so long. If I hated Mary as you love to suggest, I would have left her 20 odd years ago.
Also, as I have said many times, I don't hate Americans, I think they are great at overreacting which is funny.
Also FrothyWhatshisname, I did post many hundreds of times in the technical area, but of course Larson appeared and took over that role so I gave up.

Col

As Dan-Cat rightly says Just treat Col as the "Grumpy Old Man". After all he is becoming a bit of a character and his remarks do generate quite a lot of traffic on the forums which helps Jon to keep the advertisers happy.
.
I used to work with a guy who loved to wind other people up. The only thing that really upset him was if people ignored him. It is the nature of Internet Forums to have a lot of banter so I would suggest we learn to live with it. After all as a Swedish friend of mind once said after several beers (we had lost count at that point) "A friend is someone you can insult". IMO there is a lot of truth in that.

Your not on the receiving end, so stop trying to dictate the response.

Here's one way to think about it:
Imagine you're in a group and somebody says something that you find upsetting - for whatever reason - and you tell the group that you're bothered. The responses from the individual who said it, as well as the others in the group can range from:
-I'm sorry. Didn't mean to offend you.
to
-You're way too sensitive. Get over it.
to
-Didn't like that? Here's some more of the same.

and all manner of responses in between.
Now, I'm not saying that if you don't get the responses you'd hoped for, you should just go cry in your beer. I mean, sticks and stones and all that.
But if you listen to what people do and what they say, you can come to understand something about their character, and who your friends are.

Now Col, thank you for you physical profile. I have all the data I need at this point. I'll ring you up (as you Brits say) if there's something more I need on that score.

I was just contributing to the thread. I was not telling you how to respond so I would not expect you to tell me what to post.

Those of us who have been on forums for a long time have encountered WUMs and Trolls. Just remember that "sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you".

There have been times when remarks have been made to a specific individual have gone too far but then action has been taken. In this case there has been nothing which merits any action.

And BTW I find your implying that I am english to be insulting (well it would be if I didn't put it down to your ignorance of my background)

So lets not get bogged down in what is basically a fairly mild remark.

Brian,
Now that Col derailed the conversation

Erm, actually my comment was in context of the thread - ie dieting by an American. It was the gross overreaction that crashed it into the gutter.

I find it funny "sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you". But you take direct offence to being lumped in with the English.

Your right I am ignorant about your background, but I do recall making a comment about the Scandinavian culture in which you did not hesitate snap back and put me in my place... BTW: I am half Norwegian.

You always seem insulted, are you being to sensitive?

So somewhere in the OP's comments you saw the words "American"

We get the English are obsessed with Americans, that fact has been established over and over. At some point it becomes border line creepy.
