Gun laws do they work (1 Viewer)

Personally, I believe in the Constitution and keeping people with the rights we have guaranteed to us. I see no reason to vote for a party that has been taking rights away for the past 20 years. Pubs with the Patriot Act, Dems with NDAA 2012. I'm done with both of these parties. The balance is shifting. Gary Johnson gets my vote this year.

Here is the crux of my argument. Your fear has reached such a point that it's eroding your ability to think about the concerns of others. Talking about liberals and conservatives is just a barricade to prevent you from addressing where you are lucidly.

That is my point excatly. I am thinking about others. My wife, my kids, my grandkids, my church family. Thats all the concern I can handle. I have to depend on you to do the same for you family. If that means in your life coddling the criminals, then have at it. Insurance isn't hind sight wonderful. 60's was a long time so I can remember, but I think I did not have money for insurance, and secondly I know for sure that in my nice little home town no one would do me harm.
In the last three weeks I put up a black man and his mother that were street people in a blinding rain up at a motel and bought them supper. I filled up the car with gas of a young mother and her son and bought them supper. A neighbor who was shacking up was thrown out by her boyfriend. I filled her car with gas, my home church has a program that is called reformers unanimous, which I donate to, that help addicts turn their life around, so don't tell me about compassion. However, however, I am not going to let this all go down the drain for people that want to take it away from me.

I am also sick of both parties, but a vote for Johnson is a vote for Obama. Just the thought of another four years of him wants me to move somewhere else, but the big question is where?

As a side-note and this is in no way meant to be flippant. My response would have been to purchase insurance.

Hi Dan,
Just looked up your profile. (KY) I have been to KY many times, but I am very very curious. Do you not have violent crimes 75 miles or so from your house every day or nearly every day?

I think this comes with old age. The truth doesn't matter anymore. You get so set in your ways, and so angry at how you perceive the world, that you just keep fighting regardless of what is happening. It is why the media has such an easy time convincing these people of the most insane things.

Adam,
I am not sure which one of us you think is set in our ways. If it is me than this is really funny as the media is the last people that can convince me of thngs.

A vote for Romney is more of the same. If enough people will wake up and see we do have the power to change it and stop making excuses like you just did, Johnson has a chance.

Evidently we can't expect them to wake up as they are the same people that nominated Romney in the first place. If anybody is fooled that Romney is going to work to repeal Obamacare then they have been deceived. However there is a slight difference between the two. I don’t think that Romney would call his daughter and say I am so proud of you for whoring around.

Dick, I try to steer clear of the watercooler as it seems that when I do visit, my ignore list grows :(

Oh John,
I just thought of something. You said you try to steer clear of the water cooler, but you do read my jokes, right??? Be careful how you answer I am very sensitive about my jokes
BTW I am more desirous of going to Australia more than ever since you showed me that huge crawfish. Got to have some. I can fly free military. Is there an American base in Austrailis?

What is the price of the usual low end motel, although if there is a base I can sleep there very inexpensively?

I don't care where as long as its not near me, we can do without trigger happy gunslingers thank you.

Brian

Ok Brian, I'll stay away from your next of the woods beside I don't like kidney pie.:( And I thought you like me?:D
Besides, A guy beat me up in a bar in GB, and it was my best buddy.

Dick you are either a very unlucky person or .. Well I'll leave that unsaid, as you seem to have trouble follow you around. As I approach my 71st birthday I have never been mugged or attacked tho I have been on the end of road rage, fortunately he didn't have a gun .

Our house was burgled when we were on holiday once but insurance paid.

We don't have any bases here although I believe that Pinegap is the next best thing, there is also a bunch of Marines stationed up in Darwin.

Dick, there are 2 separate thoughts here.

  1. I think this comes with old age. The truth doesn't matter anymore. You get so set in your ways, and so angry at how you perceive the world, that you just keep fighting regardless of what is happening.
  2. It is why the media has such an easy time convincing these people of the most insane things.
I should have separated them with a new paragraph.

As for the first thought, I think your own admissions clearly label you as such.

As for the second, I imagine you to be a Fox news viewer. If I am correct in that, you should take this quick survey (11 questions): http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/1...-about-a-CNN-viewer-Take-our-quiz-to-find-out

See how many you get correct - the answers may surprise you.

That is my point excatly. I am thinking about others. My wife, my kids, my grandkids, my church family. Thats all the concern I can handle.

With respect you're not making much sense. You explain the limits of your concerns and go on to describe how you help people in the street.

I will say this though, I consider not drenching my family in fear as a part of looking after them.

75 miles is a big radius. Put it this way, I've never experienced, witnessed or been told by the local media anything that would make me adopt your attitude.

My mother has had stones thrown at her car, she got out and gave them a talking to.
My brother in law, an avid hunter with a house full of guns had his barn broken into while asleep. He couldn't actually buy anymore guns to make him feel safer so he bought a big security light instead.
Some people relieved our neighbor's house of some materials he left outside when he shacked up somewhere else for over a month and didn't tell anyone. His security measure was to leave the radio on.

Any local violent crime is rare and usually domestic.

Oh Brian you are a lot older than me, I am only seventy <G> I would not want to kill anybody, but if I had to protect my family I would. Yes, I have had my share of calamities but I look at them as part of what I must go through in the society that I am living in. It saddens me to see live and society declining for everybody. Brian can you imagine the grief that the family is going thru has a son shot and burned the body of their son and then stuff him in paint cans. It is bad enough of to lose a child, but on that fashion must be devastating. I don’t know the family but they live two miles from my house. Even the families of the perpetrators are in grief. Can you imagine raising a daughter for 18 years and finding out that there little girl committed such a heinous crime and that she will be incarcerated for the rest of her life. This is just one story. I could go on just around me, and in the nation day after day. Look at the recent one in our country how many were killed and injured by some maniac. If taking away guns from citizens would cure that I would be for it. I firmly believe with all my being that it would make it worst.

I am glad if your area is that safe, and 75 miles is just the begining, look what is happing around the whole country. Take a look at the post that I sent to Brian. Does not your heart go out to that family?
