Let's think of Holland
Forget it!
My favorite England - just 200 miles to south or north (I love north) - and you can forget about "English" - so what ? - Shall we separate?
...
About the "Russian" language:
The country is big - I've been to the Far East too, there's a difference.
The state accent is the Moscow accent (more "a"), but the most beautiful and cultural accent is the Leningrad accent.
..
Fuck it!
We all live on this little shit hole of a planet Earth. :)

What is the logic in dividing Ukraine and Russia? These are the same people who have lived together for thousands of years.
... In fact, it is the same tribe
So no! - It was necessary to destroy us ...

Remember:
Russians drive slowly - but then they drive fast! 🤣

There is no Ukrainian language - in the west there is a western dialect (closer to Polish) in the east and south a dialect closer to Russian - but this is not a distinction, it's normal.
Let's think of Holland (for example) - where the north speaks almost German, and the south almost French.
Again you're going off-road. I don't urge keeping or dividing them is correct or wrong. I really don't know.
I'm telling you're doing it the wrong way. How many innocent people have you killed in Ukraine? You're justifying what Russia is doing there because Ukraine is a part of Russia?
Do you watch the news at all? Have you seen what your country has done, and is doing to them?

Ukraine is a part of Russia?
NO!
Culturally, there are no boundaries at all.

I live in Murmansk (this is the far north of Russia) - and I have (next door) neighbor.
We both have relatives and friends in Ukraine - we are worried about ...

I was starting to like you until you resorted to using foul language. There's no need for it and it shows a total lack of vocabulary like Americans do.

@ColinEssex , Eugene-LS is not American and therefore is translating what he says into English. You insist on using certain descriptive words about Duchess Meghan that have gotten you at least a comment or two about your unimaginative vocabulary. So it is an example of what we refer to as "the pot calling the kettle black."

@Eugene-LS , you are certainly allowed to have opinions here and Jon doesn't like censorship. So I will merely ask you to remember that we DO have one rule - try to maintain a respectful dialog with other members despite a clear emotional involvement that makes detachment difficult.

And just as a side note, we probably would not care to part with Texas, ... but if you had asked that question about California, you might have gotten a more emphatically affirmative response.

AND in response to your history question: Ukraine, as a nation, came into existence with the official dissolution of the USSR in 1991. I was aware of of many nations that had been previously called "xxxx Soviet Socialist Republic" and were now on their own more or less. Ukraine was one of them. I was working for the U.S. Navy at the time and attended certain security briefings at the time so I was aware of some of the travel repercussions, though I didn't know that much about USSR internals otherwise.

My description of the Markel woman being a half breed, gold digging Z rated actress is not the same as using the F word. My description would have been totally acceptable some years back as well you know, so don't try the old pot/kettle slant. OK I know the PC police and hypocritical Americans feign shock and disgust at my description but it has been used in the British press and on some TV shows. The Markel woman is hated and disliked in the UK which is why we drove her to run back home.
If some foreigner wants to use foul language then fine, it shows they have grasped some words, they just need to finesse their usage. Americans struggle with English but we just roll our eyes and tut.

We are aware of your dislike of the Duchess of Essex. (You hardly ever let us forget.) And I did lightly ping Eugene-LS, too. You weren't singled out. Let's not hijack the thread any more, though.

She is the Duchess of Sussex - not Essex.- shows how observant you are. You reckon you're an expert.

Also, I didn't hijack this thread.
I wasn't the one who used foul language on a public forum.
I wasn't the one who mentioned the Markel woman.
I wasn't the one calling another user 'kettle and pot.

Look in the mirror, you might catch the culprit.

A bit like you reminding us virtually every day that you were in the navy doing secret missions blah blah yawn. What's the big deal?

The Treaty of Versailles made a complete hash of the Middle East and a lot of the problems we have today were caused by the capricious borders drawn by people who didn't understand that people with the same language and beliefs should have been brought together instead of separated. The borders drawn after WW II weren't much better and many countries broke up in the past 50 years due to the way the lines were drawn. I thought when the USSR broke up it was along ethnic lines.

Biden did not visit Zelensky in the Ukraine when he had the chance. Actions demonstrate commitment and speak louder than virtue signalling word salads. Biden does not care about the Ukraine, he is appeasing Putin (Russia).

Col, for what it is worth, I apologize for confusing Essex and Sussex, two cities in England I have never visited and which I couldn't tell apart if you showed me an untitled picture of either.

Back to the issue of the thread, the problem with the Russian invasion of the Ukraine, as far as we can tell from news reports in the USA, is that Putin blew a gasket when Ukraine publicly considered joining NATO. It SEEMS that he sees a loss of power there and is concerned about his legacy. That is at least a part of what I see. I wonder if I have misunderstood the news or if the typical news writers have misunderstood the situation.

Essex and Sussex are not cities or towns - they are English counties containing cities and towns, basically a smaller version of your states.

Words are cheap, it is "easy" for Biden to sanctimoniously proclaim that Russia (Putin) will suffer "severe repercussions" for invading the Ukraine. As time passes, there is increasing incremental evidence that the Biden administration may be "slow walking" aid to the Ukraine for self-serving political reasons, essentially tossing the Ukraine under the proverbial "bus".

Another incident of Biden "walking back" on aid promises. Seems that Biden does not want the Ukraine to win.
The U.S. has refused to provide warplanes to Kyiv despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s repeated requests for such aerial defenses.
The U.S. has voiced concern that providing warplanes could be aggressively interpreted by Russian President Vladimir Putin and spread the conflict beyond Ukraine’s borders.
Biden is "leading from behind" in the sense the Biden is letting Putin define what weapons would be "acceptable". Putin is evidently receiving material aid from China now. Ukraine is an independent sovereign nation that has a "right" to receive material aid since they were the one's attacked.

Putin to put man on the moon! Nothing like a big project to distract the population from the Special Military Operation. Desparate measures from a desparate man.
