I've only scanned the article, but I don't see the connection to Covid. They mention a freeze in screenings that started in 2012.

The connection to COVID, although maybe not by any assertion in that article, is that during Covid many non-essential medical things were cancelled or postponed indefinitely, prohylactic things being chief among them.

Anytime you stop screening for cancer, you're going to get more cancer
