Is England on the verge of full socialism/communism

The news would indicate that banks in England are being nationalised.

Given that the English as a group seem to love regulation etc.....is the nationalisation of the banks a trigger to make England a fully owned "by the state" country?

For many of us "England is the mother country" and while no longer relevant it would be a shame if England became fully socialised. Perhaps when you have 50 million or more people living on a bit of dirt the size of a postage stamp...then full socialism or communism is the only solution.

No way ---
the nationlisation will be a temporary measure and only a relatively small percentage of shares will be held (enough to be able to control policy) int he short term -- once the goverment changes they will want to sellth e shares to recoup the monies spent on the nationalisation -

espically a conservative goverment which is light on goverment ownership

as to regualtion - agree way to much - but given that the US has little regulation and is the root cause of the problem ...

Reg here in the UK is the right amount but in the wrong place - its about regulating the client instead of the service provided .

We screwed up! But youve got to get hurt to learn. On the other hand, I just read an article that said some people from some states governments warned the federal department that has something to do with lending that predatory lending was a problem, and they just got blown off. Ill look for the link.

Here it is.

I believe the French government nationalized all their banks about 20 years ago. Doesn't seem to have worked well in the current economic conditions.

I'm certain the shares the government puts back on the market a few years from now will sell big after the government has run the banks into the ground.

Is Oz having a double whammy of trouble even before the credit crunch - or is this BBC journalism, ie prices have fell 30% in places - well they have here too?

Do not worry

The total incompetance of the current government is now being exposed. Trouble is it will be the sensible people who will pay the bill. However GB has a date with the polls that he cannot avoid and then he will be out on his ear, or unfortunately a fat pension.

The only true thing is that there is no justice anymore.

Anyway the Brits are a stubborn bunch and enjoy rebelling against regulation or anything else for that matter.

So that's why Cameron and Osbourne have supported these moves to bail out the banks.

It seems to be working so far:)

Short term measure .. give it 5-10 years and who ever is in power will sell these shares at a profit ...

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or not - if not - how would we be better off under a bunch of etonians rather than second tier public school boys?

Or is it just a knee jerk out of the frying pan into the fire. I am no fan of labour.............but.....
